Swim with Giants
Each summer, large numbers of humpback whales journey to the warm, sheltered waters of Niue—a remote coral atoll in the South Pacific—to breed, give birth, and nurse their young. This rarely visited island becomes a tranquil nursery for these gentle giants, and an extraordinary setting for photographic exploration.
A Hidden Sanctuary
Unlike high traffic destinations like Tonga and Tahiti, Niue offers solitude—fewer boats, minimal human interference, and space for intimate, unhurried encounters. The whales have time to acclimate, creating opportunities for powerful, close-range imagery and respectful interaction.
Designed for Photographers
This five-person expedition is specifically designed for photographers looking to grow their underwater skills. With up to 10 multi-hour whale swim sessions, you’ll get hands-on learning, personal guidance, and the space to create — without the crowds.
Ocean Rhythms
Our days start early, scanning the ocean for signs of humpback whales. When conditions align, we enter the water to photograph them — prioritizing respectful, in-water encounters. After a midday break, we head back out for more opportunities to capture these moments in ideal light and clear conditions.
If you’re seeking a rare and immersive connection with one of nature’s most majestic species, this is the trip for you!

Q: Where is Niue?
A: Niue (pronounced “New-ay”) is a small island nation in the South Pacific, located roughly halfway between Tonga and the Cook Islands..

A: Despite its remote setting, Niue is easily accessible via a direct 3.5-hour flight from Auckland, New Zealand. Additional information to help book your Auckland-Niue flight will be provided to registered participants.
Q: What are the physical fitness requirements?
A: You must be able to swim in the ocean and cover 200-350 feet. Additionally, you should be comfortable in deeper water, where you may not be able to see the bottom.
